With the Mana Pools World Heritage site on the south bank, the Lower Zambezi National Park and the Lower Zambezi Game Management areas on the north bank, we offer a wide range of activities. From the famous Zambian game walks, night drives, morning and afternoon drives to the river cruise and the thrill of canoeing down one of the most beautiful stretches that the Zambezi River has to offer.
Kayila Safari Camp is on the Zambian bank of the Zambezi River, overlooking the Mana Pools National Park. The thatched central lounge and dining area with a swimming pool and patio area is centred in a cluster of accommodation designed to suit all needs: From our beautifully appointed twin and double thatched en-suite lodges, to a romantic honeymoon suite with sunken bath, the famous Kayila tree house suite, an exciting double room built 30 feet up an African Sausage Tree, a duplex chalet with two separate en suite twin rooms and a comfortable family room comprising a double and two singles beds.
You can choose from a number of activities - bush walks with our professional
guides, walking trails and safaris hikes to the nearby escarpment with visits
to its natural pools and waterfalls, game viewing by boat, short or multi day
canoe trips, or simply relax by the pool at the Lodge. The fishing on this
section of the river is world famous, especially for the fighting Tiger fish.
Our expert guides offer both traditional spinning as well as increasingly
popular fly fishing excursions.

Weather and Conditions
Generally, the temperatures in Lower Zambezi are a few degrees higher
than neighbouring towns in Zambia as the park is situated in a valley.
The main rains fall between November and March and during this time,
many roads can become impassable. In April it is still quite hot, but
cools down through to July becoming drier as we go into winter.
The dry season is from August to October with October being the peak.
The dry season is the best time of year for game viewing, as the
animals are forced to visit the dwindling water holes to drink and
the grass is dusty brown and not too high. Zambia’s famous birds can
be viewed in any season.
Walking safaris only take place between June
and October, when the grass is low enough to allow good visibility.
What to Expect
A friendly welcome, comfortable rooms, hot showers, flushing toilets,
home cooked food, and a fully stocked bar. Best of all, a cooling
swimming pool and magnificent views – Enjoy!
Visa Requirements
Zambian visas are needed by UK and US passport holders, most other
European countries as well as Australians and New Zealanders. Please
make sure you have checked with the embassy on requirements before
arrival as these do change without any prior notice. Most visas can
be obtained at the border, but we advise visitors to have the correct
amount of cash available as change can sometimes be a problem! South
Africans and other SADC nationalities are free of charge.
What to Bring
Always bring ‘bush-coloured’ clothes with you. When taking part in
game drives or walks, you need to blend in with the bush to have a
greater chance of getting close to animals. White is a definite no-no.
If you are visiting in the rainy season, a raincoat is a must! Short
sleeved shirts are required for all year round and maybe a fleece or
sweater for those cooler evenings, or a long sleeved shirt to cover
up from mosquitoes.
Mosquito nets are provided in all rooms, but you should ensure a
plentiful supply of insect repellent.
Don’t forget to bring enough photographic film and batteries – it’s a
long way to the shop!. Game activities always result in clients using
up much more film than they intended to! Recharging can be done at the
lodge as we have “mains “ volts from our generators, [UK style 3 pin
plugs]
